Organizations supporting children and youth in Canada receive $1.3 million in grants – 100% raised through fundraising, donations and sale of special stamp issue

OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 3, 2026 /CNW/ -- Today, the Canada Post Community Foundation announced its 2026 grant recipients, awarding $1.3 million to Canadian charities and organizations that support children and youth across the country.

Each year, the Community Foundation strives to uplift communities and deliver a brighter future for generations of Canadians. This year, 113 Canadian schools, charities and community organizations received grants for a wide range of initiatives, including four Signature Grants of $50,000 to the following:

• Outside Looking In – This Indigenous-led organization is the recipient of the Foundation's yearly Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Grant. Outside Looking In uses culturally grounded dance, mentorship and experiential learning to empower Indigenous youth, strengthen cultural identity, support mental wellness and develop leadership skills while advancing reconciliation through meaningful engagement with Indigenous knowledge, history and community.
• Book Clubs for Inmates Inc. – The Foundation's grant will help expand the Children of Inmates Reading Program (ChIRP) to additional federal correctional institutions across Canada, helping incarcerated parents maintain meaningful connections with their children through shared reading experiences that promote literacy, strengthen family bonds and support child well-being.
• Let's Talk Science / Parlons sciences – The Signature Grant will help the organization provide free, culturally inclusive learning opportunities that build STEM skills for youth in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
• Make-A-Wish | Rêves d'enfants Canada – This grant will be used to establish the "Northern Lights Wish Fund," ensuring children with critical illnesses in northern and remote communities experience the life-changing power of a wish. Families in these regions often face unique challenges due to geographic isolation, limited medical infrastructure, and reduced access to specialized pediatric care. 

All funds are raised through employee and customer support

Each year, the Community Foundation raises money through customer donations in post offices, employee contributions and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of a special stamp issue. Every dollar raised supports grassroots programs benefitting children and youth in the province or territory where funds were raised. Special stamp booklets, collection envelopes and postcards are sold at post offices and at canadapost.ca/shop.

Delivering a brighter future for Canadian children and youth

Since 2012, the Community Foundation has awarded $17.7 million to 1,500 community projects across Canada. Grants support a variety of initiatives, from literacy and language programs to youth outreach services, gender and sexual diversity programs, projects that support Indigenous youth, arts and recreation projects, among other initiatives.
