Slated to open in Fall 2027, the state-of-the-art educational hub will deliver nationwide and global teacher training, early literacy screening, and community support for those living with dyslexia. 

VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 3, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Centre for Dyslexia today announced its future permanent home in the heart of Vancouver, targeting to open its doors in September 2027. As a proud provincial and national beacon for educational equity and literacy reform, the centrally located, state-of-the-art facility will dramatically expand access to specialized learning support for children, youth, and adults with dyslexia, families and training for educators across Canada and beyond. The new facility is located on Renfrew Street near Broadway. 

Dyslexia is the most prevalent learning difference, and affects up to 20% of the population—an estimated 7.5 million Canadians, including 1.1 million school-aged children. Despite its prevalence, up to 80% of individuals remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to persistent, systemic barriers. It is often framed solely as an educational issue, ignoring the profound human, social and emotional impacts when children don't learn to read. 

The Centre focuses on the challenges experienced by the dyslexic learner, including supporting their well-being. It will serve the community by bridging critical gaps, providing comprehensive, wrap-around, support, such as screening, remediation, explicit and multi-sensory instruction in reading, writing and math, executive functioning and other services.

The Centre will provide teacher training and professional development grounded in the Science of Reading. Using evidence-based approaches, programs will empower educators to return to their classrooms with the knowledge and skills needed to build truly inclusive learning environments. 

About the Centre for Dyslexia

The Centre for Dyslexia is a new Canadian centre of excellence built upon the 40+ year legacy of Fraser Academy, a recognized leader in remediating language-based learning differences within primary and secondary education. The Centre will share a campus with the future home of Fraser Academy and integrate the specialized community programming currently operated by Fraser Academy's Outreach & Training Centre (FA^*) that since 2018 has benefitted over 6,100 students, families, and educators from across the country and from over 10 countries around the world.
